El Viajero

Javier de Juan, a celebrated Spanish painter, has for years wanted to transform the most famous character from his paintings, 'El Viajero' (the traveling man) into an animated film. He is now getting this opportunity, due to a new partnership Cairo Cartoon in Egypt. This film tracks Javier's adventures and misadventures in Cairo and Spain as he works with the cartoon company to write the story, draw the characters in old-style animation, and bring El Viajero to life.

In Madagascar there exists a vibrant youth sub-culture that revolves around modern dance - hip hop, break dancing, and traditional Malagasy styles. This short film documents 'Battles' (dance competitions), dancing lessons and performances by the top modern dancers of Madagascar as they vie for professional, and street, credibility.

Voyage of the Vézo

The Vézo [VEHzu] are the coastal people of southwest Madagascar. Their world has always relied on the Tulear Barrier Reef. As Maro Bezozo catches fewer and smaller fish, he senses a natural equilibrium has been disrupted, pondering the future of his people. He embarks on a voyage that will take him over 100km, sailing with his eleven year-old nephew, Sambalahy. Maro wonders if and how this shift is affecting other Vézo. The journey holds exciting encounters with other Vézo: shark fishermen, sea turtle hunters, veterans and rookies. They sail along virgin coastal landscapes, and over the crystal waters of the 4th largest coral reef in the world. Voyage of the Vézo considers the broader changes facing the world through the journey of Maro and Sambalahy.

Tarika B is one of the most famous bands from Madagascar, whose music combines traditional Malagasy instrumentals with modern lyrics and style. In November 2005, DDC followed Tarika B, along with their charismatic lead singer Hanitra, across Madagascar on the band's first ever national tour. At every show they were greeted by an eager throng of fans, and around every corner they discovered unexpected facets of their Malagasy roots.
